4 Steps to Cleaning Granite Countertops
If you’re not sure how to clean your granite countertops, no fear, The Countertop Wizard is here! Whether you’re preparing for a party, or just keeping up on the daily upkeep, we’ve got the 4 simple steps to clean your counters.
Granite is a porous material, meaning it can absorb liquid which could lead to staining. Make sure you’re using the correct materials to keep your product looking new. Follow these steps to keep your granite investment sparkling.
1. Prepare Counters
Remove all appliances from the counters so you’re staring at bare surfaces. The counter area where appliances, like coffee pots and toasters, that rarely get moved, will need to be cleaned well! Wipe the counter with a dry sponge or towel to remove loose crumbs and debris.
2. Choose a cleaner
Since granite is porous, your countertops should be sealed. You want to avoid harsh or abrasive cleaners and towels. Warm water and soap can do the trick! Consider wiping with a microfiber towel or soft sponge. TCW TIP: For quartz - use Windex!
3. Nitty Gritty
Use a razor blade to loosen any built-up debris. It won't scratch the counter, just make sure the blade rests on the counter during scraping.
You may notice holes or chips in your countertop surface. Granite is a natural material, so this happens, just take note of these and keep an eye on the size. If there are too many chips, or they become distracting, it’s time to get them filled.
4. Disinfect
Use a common household bleach-free disinfectant wipe or a 50/50 mix of isopropyl alcohol and water. Let sit for 5 minutes and wipe counters with a microfiber cloth to ensure no liquid pools which could lead to staining.
Granite countertops can be a beautiful addition to your kitchen. Keep them shining like new with these easy quick cleaning tips.
